The Alaska series, from artist Virgil Abloh, comprises cast bronze furniture which appears to be sinking into the ground. The benches and chairs were first conceived to be exhibited in Venice, with Abloh capturing the tensions felt within the often flooded city. Originally trained as an architect and engineer, Abloh contextualises this conceptual flooding as a global phenomenon and crisis, evidenced wherever his furniture is displayed. Abloh used Venice itself as the inspiration, influenced by the programming of the meandering streets - the nonlinear methodology to it all.
