EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Carpenters Workshop Gallery proudly returns for the 25th edition of PAD Paris, with a bold exhibition of new artworks presented for the first time with the gallery.
A series of works by leading designer Martin Székely are a highlight of the show, in a demonstration of essentialist design. The artist removes all sense of subjectivity from his work, meaning the aluminium, Corian and carbon fibre artworks exude a powerfully self-aware sense of objective truth. Several of the tables in the series were previously owned by the late Karl Lagerfeld, a recognition of their idealised natures. A very limited set of eight chairs, designed by Carlo Mollino for the prestigious Casa del Sole Italian ski resort apartments in 1953, are also included.
French artist Thibault Hazelzet presents a collection of ceramic vessels, each modelled around a delicately balanced arrangement of dried flowers. The Momento Mori collection borders on the ephemeral, caught between the decay of the natural flowers and the indefinitely preserved ceramic and brass sculptures that support them in miraculous compositions. These ultra-contemporary artworks counterbalance the pieces of exceptional historic design, demonstrating Carpenters Workshop Gallery’s commitment to timeless design.
